National Museum of Qatar

Jean Nouvel built it from interlocking discs modelled on the desert rose, and late afternoon light separates the planes. Shoot the exterior first. Some galleries stay closed for maintenance through December 2026.

Souq Waqif

Ten minutes south. Walk the lanes as the light drops. Find the falcon souq and the gold souq.

Dinner at Alba, or Parisa at the souq

Parisa serves Persian food in a mirrored room that justifies the trip on its own.

This locks your clock to Doha time and sets up Brussels.

Khor Al Adaid, the inland sea

An hour south to Sealine, deflate the tyres, then cross the dunes to the water. Dawn gives long shadows raking across the dune faces. Back by 11:00. The alternative is the spa, the pool and the Malaki Lounge, which is defensible after a fourteen hour flight.

Museum of Islamic Art

I.M. Pei designed it at 91, taking the geometry from the ablution fountain at Ibn Tulun in Cairo. Two hours minimum. Photograph the atrium through the oculus, the stairwell, and the arched north window framing West Bay.

MIA Park

Richard Serra's steel sculpture 7 rises from the point with the West Bay towers directly behind it.

Corniche, walking north

The crescent runs seven kilometres. Do the first two, which carry the best skyline angles, then take a taxi.

Shay Al Shomous, Souq Waqif

Shamsa cooks Qatari home food in a small room and takes cash only.

Qatar National Library

Rem Koolhaas folded a single vast plane into shelving and sank the heritage collection into an excavated marble pit. Entry is free. The interior rewards a wide lens more than any other room in Doha.

Msheireb Museums

Four restored courtyard houses. Bin Jelmood House confronts the Indian Ocean slave trade and Qatar's part in it directly. Entry is free.

Lusail Marina Promenade and Al Maha Island

From the waterfront you can frame the whole of Katara Towers, and the crossed-scimitar form only resolves from a distance.

Blue hour on Katara Towers

The facade lighting comes up while the sky still holds colour, giving you roughly twenty minutes where both balance. The single best photograph available from your hotel.

Dinner at Nobu or Morimoto

Early night. You leave before six.

Car to Zaventem

The session releases you at 15:00. About 25 minutes outside peak, and up to 45 in it, so this puts you at the airport by 16:00 without hurrying.

Fly to Barcelona

About 2h05 with no time change, landing around 20:30. Collect your bag in Brussels, since it will not through-check. Later options run 20:55 and 21:35.

Car to Passeig de Gracia

About 20 minutes from El Prat. Book it before you fly rather than at the kerb.

Casa Batllo or La Pedrera

Morning. Walking distance from Passeig de Gracia.

Sagrada Familia, tower first

The red, orange and gold windows on the Passion side ignite from about 17:00 until closing. Do the tower first, then give the nave the last two hours. The lift takes you up, and the descent is roughly 400 steps. Towers shut 30 minutes before the basilica.

Placa de Gaudi

The floodlights come up while the sky still holds blue, around 20:35 to 21:00, and they run Thursday to Sunday. The pond on the Nativity side gives you the reflection shot. Free, and no ticket needed. The basilica finished the exterior of the Tower of Jesus Christ in July 2026, so the skyline you shoot is new this year.

Park Guell and Gracia

The mosaic terrace and the serpentine bench, then down into Gracia for lunch in the squares. Timed entry, booked ahead.

Gothic Quarter and El Born

The cathedral, the medieval lanes, Santa Maria del Mar and the Picasso Museum. All walkable, all shaded.

Montjuic

The Fundacio Joan Miro, the Olympic ring, and the view back over the city and port. Take the cable car up.

Car to El Prat

Roughly 20 minutes from the Eixample.
